ABOUT US

Our Story

In 2012, representatives from the Orange County Department of Education, Los Angeles County Office of Education, San Diego County Office of Education, Arts Orange County, and Los Angeles County Arts Commission convened to examine how their respective missions to assist schools and districts with STEAM education could be strengthened by working together. From this initial meeting, The Arts + STEM Collaborative (a California tri-county partnership with Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties) was established with the support of The Boeing Company to assist elementary, middle, and high schools with launching or improving the delivery of STEAM instruction to their students.

ARTS + STEM

COLLABORATIVE

Support

The Arts + STEM Collaborative is supported by the Orange
County Department of Education, Los Angeles County Arts
Commission, Los Angeles County Office of Education, and
the San Diego County Office of Education.

The Arts + STEM Collaborative (A+SC), consisiting of teachers, administrators, professors/researchers, and industry leaders from the various educational fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematices (STEAM), analyzes and identifies effective structures and practices occurring in schools. The Collaborative shares with districts and school educators these in-depth findings about effective practices and provides guidance to support their change of practice in STEAM schools. The Collaborative continues to deepen relationships among current participants in the Arts + STEM network and foster coordination among new stakeholders in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties.

Why make an online STEAM Implementation Guide?

The Arts + STEM Collaborative began its process to make a downloadable PDF of the STEAM Implementation Guide, but it was soon realized that the observations gathered in 2014-2016 were too many to be placed into a printed document. It was decided, therefore, to create an online space for the sharing of effective STEAM practices and resources in a way that could capture innovations by providing a platform for an online Community of Practice.

A Thank You to our Pilot Schools

The Arts + STEM Collaborative would like to thank the following schools that shared access to observations, interviews, and surveys to gather effective STEAM practices, examples, and resources. Their generous contribution and participation created the seed of information in the STEAM Implementation Guide.
